Abstract. Indonesia is the largest archipelagic state in the world. According to data from Indonesia's statistical agency centre, it consists of 17,508 islands with the land area of 1,922,570 km². This situation causes Indonesia as one of the largest agricultural countries in the world. The majority of livelihoods in Indonesia is farming. Unfortunately, the harvest is not enough for consumer’s needs due to low productivity. This is due to the limitations of science and technology of farmers. In this industrial era 4.0, humans no longer compete with other humans, but also compete with machines that work quickly, smartly, and unlimited. One of the best way to solve this problem, there need to be an educational trend that can open farmer’s mind to use technology. This study aims to create a BrightFarm android application that connecting farmers and academics. It is expected that with this application, farmers can solve their problems and exchange information to be more innovative. BrightFarm contains discussion forums, markets for buying and selling of agricultural products, and research articles. The methods are used in this study divided into two steps, BrightFarm android application making and advertise of this application. The results of this study indicate that this application can be used by farmers because convenience of internet access in Indonesia. In conclusion, BrightFarm can become an alternative solution to solve farmer’s problems and become a trend education for farmers.

Indonesia is also an agricultural state with the vast land area and diverse of biodiversity. This situation causes Indonesia one of the largest agricultural countries in the world.
Agricultural sector is important for national economic development. This can be shown from the large number of laborers who work in the agricultural sector. Agriculture consists of five sectors, namely food crops, plantations, animal husbandry, fisheries and forestry (Soekartawi, 1999). Unfortunately, the harvest is not enough for consumer’s needs due to low productivity. This is due to the limitations of science and technology of farmers. In this industrial era 4.0, humans no longer compete with other humans, but also compete with machines that work quickly, smartly, and unlimited. One of the best way to solve this problem, there need to be an educational trend that can open farmer’s mind to use technology.
The development of information and communication technologies continues to increase from urban areas to rural areas. Information and communication technologies provides many conveniences helping all human activities including in agriculture. Farmers can use information and communication technologies to find out various information about agriculture, how to cultivate crops well, and how to treat various types of plant diseases. It can also be used by extension agents to share information without having to go directly to the field, so that it can improve the ability of farmers. The creation of the BrightFarm Application is expected to be one of the media for farmers in overcoming existing problems and presenting information that easy to access, modern, and attractive.
1.2 Goals and benefits
This study aims to create a BrightFarm android application that connecting farmers and academics. It is expected that with this application, farmers can solve their problems and exchange information to be more innovative. Academics can also publish their results of research so that can be used directly by farmers.
2. Literature review
Agriculture is a process to produce food, livestock and agroindustry products by utilizing plant and animal resources (Maulidah, 2012). Diwyanto (2008) said that to fulfil the increasing food demand, Indonesia import livestock products such as powder milk with a value of Rp5 trillion / year, processed leather, as well as meat and feeder cattle which in 1996 reached a value of around Rp2.0-Rp2, 5 trillion. If this trend continues, Indonesia will become the world's largest cattle importing country. In addition, imports of corn, soybeans and fish meal for feed mill are also very large, namely 2.0-2.5 million tons / year. High consumer demand with low production is a good opportunity to develop the agricultural industry.
Today's technology has developed rapidly and provides so many information. Amin et al. (2013), Mentioning the main focus of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) applications in agriculture is the Farmers' Need of information. Some information that is needed for agricultural growth and development, development programs and subsidies, weather forecasting, post-harvest technology, general agricultural news, information about insurance / processing claims, input and dimensions, research and soil sampling management. Harison et al (2017) added that agricultural information is one of the important factors in the production process of farming. One of them is the development of agricultural extension applications, horticulture sms gateway, and applications that can be used for dissemination of planting information using the Android mobile application.
Android is an operating system for Linux-based mobile devices that includes the operating system, middleware, and applications. Android provides an open platform for developers to create their applications. Android is the first complete, open and free mobile platform. Complete because Android is a safe operating system and provides many tools in building software and allows for application development opportunities. Open because developers can freely develop applications. Free because there is no license or royalty fee to be developed on the Android platform (Safaat H, 2012). Mobile learning or m-learning is often defined as e-learning through mobile computing devices. M-learning is the delivery of electronic learning materials on mobile computing devices so that they can be accessed anywhere and anytime. In general, the intended mobile devices are in the form of cellphones and PDAs (Pramudita and Yuliansyah, 2018). Take a look of this opportunity, this paper tries to develop an Android-based BrightFarm application so that it can be accessed easily, anywhere, and anytime.
3. Materials and methods
The material in the making of BrightFarm are laptops, android smart phones, and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
3.2.1 BrightFarm android application making. The BrightFarm application is made using Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) starting from requirements, system and software design, implementation and unit testing, Integration and system testing. 1) Requirements: system services, constraints, and goals set by conducting literature studies by finding accurate information then defining it in detail and functioning as system specifications. 2) System and software design: the stage of system design allocates system requirements for both hardware and software by forming the overall system design. Software design involves identifying and drawing basic software system abstractions. 3) Implementation and unit testing: at this stage, software design is realized as a series of programs. Testing involves verifying that each unit meets its specifications. 4) Integration and system testing: the program is combined and tested as a complete system to ascertain whether or not it matches the software requirements.
3.2.2 BrightFarm android application advertising. The BrightFarm application that has been through testing phase is then published through Play store and advertised through social media.
4. Results and discussion
So many research in agriculture have been implemented and developed. Agricultural research in the form of information both in terms of production and marketing techniques are essentially to improve or solve existing problems. This information is not just consumption for other researchers to be used as reference material ,but furthermore it is for the farmers, especially to improve their standard of living and welfare, which in the end is also to fulfil the needs of human life. The results of agricultural research have been compiled and published to the public with various media, however, information on the results of agricultural research in fact has not reached its main target, namely farmers. Sumardjo et al. (2009) said that the stagnation of agricultural innovation and information that had been happening so far was expected to be improved by ICT through access to market information, production inputs, consumer trends, marketing, management of diseases and pests / livestock crops, market opportunities, market prices, and so on.
The ease of internet access in Indonesia is very important for developing android-based applications. Subiakto (2013) states that since the beginning of 2010 the Indonesian Government has inaugurated 3 (three) major projects in the telecommunications and information sector, namely the construction of Palapa Ring 1, running the Desa Dering program and several telecommunications infrastructure projects. With this program, 31,824 villages by the end of 2011 could be accessed by telecommunications. According to some literacy above BrightFarm android application can be used by farmers because of the convenience of internet access in Indonesia.
BrightFarm is a mobile application for digital agricultural extension. Various agricultural information is made easier with features that provide space for direct discussion with experts and extension agents, as well as obtaining a variety of information about agriculture. There are 3 main features in BrightFarm. First, BrightFarm provides discussion rooms for farmers and academics so they can exchange information. This feature is equipped with photo upload services to facilitate farmers in consultation. Farmers can upload photos of their livestock or plants that are having problems to consult with experts. This feature can also be used by agricultural extension workers to share information or knowledge about agriculture, thus supporting the farmer’s decision making process . Second, BrightFarm provides popular article features that allow researchers to collect their research results so that they can be delivered directly to farmers. With this popular article feature farmers can learn new things about agriculture, plantations, fisheries, livestock and forestry. Third, BrightFarm provides an online buying and selling market feature that allows farmers to sell their produce to various regions. This can be a solution for farmers in rural area who have difficulty marketing their agricultural products. This feature also makes it easy for consumers to choose and buy agricultural products without having to come to the vrural.
There are several elements that are involved in the implementation of this application such as farmers, academics, and the government. Farmers are the object of the program should have an active role. Academics such as extension agents, experts, lecturers and students play an important role to provide actual and accountable information. Lecturers and students are able to provide socialization and recommendations for communities and farmers or other elements, so the program can be achieved on target. Government's role is providing support and facilities to run the program. In addition, they can also be allocated funds and play a role in expanding this program to run in various regions in Indonesia.
5. Conclusion and recommendation
BrightFarm android application is a technological innovation in agriculture. This innovation is expected solution to break down the problems of farmers in rural areas. Also, this inovation is a useful activity and give addictive impact to the applicator because involves farmers, government and academics to run the program. This application contains interesting features. There are three main features, the first feature is a discussion room to ask questions about agricultural issues, second is the latest articles on farming, and the last is BrightFarm application have a space to buy and sell agricultural products by online. This innovation also makes the opportunity to improve the quality of farmers resources to be high-quality human beings, can help farmer's problems and increase the quality of agricultural products so able to compete in recent times even for the future, especially for a better Indonesia.
